SUBJECT: NATIONAL PROSPERITY and BARBARIANISM   (II)

WOE TO THOSE CAUGHT IN THE BARBARIAN NATION OF PROSPERITY. THESE COMMENTS ON THE PASSAGE BELOW BY SAMUEL WALES* SHOW HOW GOD VIEWS NATIONS WHO DRIFT FROM HIM.
Moses describing the prosperity of Israel:

"Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments, His judgments, and His statutes which I command you today, lest--when you have eaten and are full, and have built beautiful houses and dwell in them; and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold are multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied; when your heart is lifted up (and then) you forget the Lord your God ..."
 (Deut 8:11-14, adapted)

"But alas! What poor returns that we made to our great Deliverer! Witness our cold hearts and our irreligious lives. How much less inclined are we to return Him sincere thanks for these favors now, than we were to ask them of Him in the times of our distress? How small are the emotions of gratitude in our hearts, towards the God of our salvation!...

"Our public injustice is attended with consequences most deplorable and alarming. It exposes us to the high displeasure of God who from everlasting to everlasting, loves righteousness and hates iniquity. It tends to render public faith contemptible and is highly injurious to our national character...

"Public injustice destroys some of the most important ends of civil society; such as an equal administration of justice, and the security of property. It involves us in some of the worst evils of tyranny and despotism, while we are flattering ourselves with the pleasing names of liberty and independence...

"But the most pernicious consequence of our public injustice is still to be mentioned. It has a fatal influence upon the morals of the people at large. It is like the sin of Jeroboam; it makes Israel to sin, and thereby still further provokes the Lord God of Israel to anger."

PLEASE JOIN ME IN AGREEING PRAYER: **

"Lord, we are ashamed of the absence of true Justice in the United States. Some of the barbarians in authority all too often call evil good and good evil.

"Lord, we plead with you to have mercy and sovereignly restore true biblical justice.

"We pray this in Jesus' Name. Amen!"
