Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD (Joel 1:14).

The November Elections could reveal whether God intends to advance His judgments upon America or extend further mercy.

There is great hope in an effort underway to call the Church to 40 Days of Prayer & Fasting (September 24 until Election Day, November 2, 2004) and to nation-wide Solemn Assembly, Sunday, October 10 (see www.40daysUSA.org ).

Rev. Richard Owen Roberts, a modern Puritan & expert on revival in America, teaches:

"There were no fewer than twelve revival movements in the Old Testamentx [T]hey all hold in common: A Tragic Declension - Each was preceded by a period of moral and spiritual decline; A Righteous Judgment from God - Some are immediate and final, resulting in deaths among the wicked, others are gracious and remedial, resulting in brokenness, prayer, repentance and extraordinary seeking of God's face; The Raising Up of an Immensely Burdened Leader or Leaders - e.g., the revivals under Moses, Samuel, David, Asa, Jehoshaphat, Jehoida, Hezekiah, Josiah, Zerubbabel, Ezra, Nehemiah, Joel; and Some Extraordinary Action - The most common was that of a Solemn Assembly (Ex 33:7-11; 1 Sam 7:5, 6; 2 Sam 6:14; 1Chr 13-18; 2 Chr 15:9-15; 20:3-13ff; 23:16; 29:5ff; 31-33; Ezra 6:16-22; 8:21-23; 9:5-15; Neh 8:1ff; Joel 1:13; 2:12-17, etc.)...

"The increase of immorality and decrease of true biblical spirituality in America is a fact beyond controversy... [T]he biblically sound and spiritually lively Church will not foolishly blame the world but will immediately recognize its own complicity. The Church must first repent, for the righteous judgment was not against the world but against the Church. In times of spiritual declension and moral decadence, the great duty of every Christian is both to discover those sins that have caused the judgment and to put them away by that method which God Himself has chosen. The method God has chosen is the Solemn Assembly. Corporate sin must be dealt with by corporate repentance according to divinely ordained methods..."
