Impeachment Hearings Must Begin:
America Cannot Survive By "Watching"
The Outcome Of The Polls!
Posted September 25, 1998
Overview
"God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that His justice cannot sleep forever." Thomas Jefferson
"A general dissolution of principles and manners will more surely overthrow the liberties of America than the whole force of the common enemy. While the people are virtuous they cannot be subdued; but when they lose their virtue they will be ready to surrender their liberties to the first external or internal invaderÖ If virtue and knowledge are diffused among the people, they will never be enslaved. This will be their great security." Samuel Adams
"Do not keep silent, O God! Do not hold Your peace, and do not be still, O God! For behold, Your enemies make a tumult; And those who hate You have lifted up their head. They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, and consulted together against Your sheltered ones. They have said, 'Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation.'" Psalm 83:1-4
Overview:
- House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) has rejected for now any talk of a compromise deal with President Clinton. "I don't understand how people can rush to a solution before they finish the investigation," the Speaker told reporters on Wednesday. The President has made it quite clear that he has no intention of admitting he lied nor will he resign.
- Polls taken after Clinton's televised grand jury testimony Monday show that two-thirds of Americans surveyed thought the President was evasive in his answers, but most didn't want him to resign or be impeached. When reporters asked the Speaker about the polls, Gingrich answered: "I think people would be frankly horrified if the Congress was simply a polling institution that enacted a grotesque version of justice based on the latest poll of the latest talk show."
- Minority Leader Richard Gephardt (D-MO) has called for Republicans to set a timetable that would conclude the probe of the President within a month or two. He also asked for a stop to the release of any more material that may be of a highly sexual nature.
- White House Press Secretary Mike McCurry has accused Gingrich and other top Republicans of playing partisan politics. McCurry has said that the concept of censure and a fine is a "bipartisan idea" that better reflects public sentiment.
- The following is a list of the members of the House Judiciary Committee: Chairman Hyde (R-IL), Ranking Democrat Conyers (D-MI), Sensenbrenner (R-WI), McCollum (R-FL), Gekas (R-PA), Coble (R-NC), Smith (R-TX), Gallegly (R-CA), Canady (R-FL), Inglis (R-SC), Goodlatte (R-VA), Buyer (R-IN), Bryant (R-TN), Chabot (R-OH), Barr (R-GA), Jenkins (R-TN), Hutchinson (R-AR), Pease (R-IN), Cannon (R-UT), Rogan (R-CA), Graham (R-SC), Bono (R-CA), Frank (D-MA), Schumer (D-NY), Berman (D-CA), Boucher (D-VA), Nadler (D-NY), Scott (D-VA), Watt (D-NC), Lofgren (D-CA), Jackson Lee (D-TX), Waters (D-CA), Meehan (D-MA), Delahunt (D-MA), Wexler (D-FL), Rothman (D-NJ), Barrett (D-WI).
Prayer Targets:
- Pray for each member of the House Judiciary Committee. May God grant them COURAGE and STRENGTH to rise above politics as usual and fulfill their duty to IMPEACH the President (Josh 1:7; Lk 17:10; 1 Tim 5:19-22).
- Pray for the CHURCH to ARISE from its slumber in OUTRAGE over the erosion of integrity in America. And may the CHURCH also MOURN and REPENT for helping to place Clinton in office (1 Sam 8:7-18; Pr 24:17&18; Is 1:15-17, Rom 12:21; 1 Tim 3:15).
