THE NEXT POPE
PRAY THAT GOD WILL
DIRECT
For exaltation comes neither from
the east nor from the west nor from the south. But God is the
Judge: He puts down one, and exalts another. (Ps 75:6-7)
With Catholics in every nation (many of those nations with
papal embassies) the new pope and the Roman Church will continue
to wield considerable power. The next pope could be a voice for
Biblical grace and truth or an agent for godless change, just
as are many church leaders, both Catholic and Protestant.
- The College of Cardinals will assemble Monday, April 18,
to elect a new pope.
- All but three of 117 eligible to vote were appointed by Pope
John Paul II. Experts expect the new pope to follow in his conservative
steps.
- Yet, Catholic liberals, pro-communist "liberation"
theologians, advocates for female priests, liberal divorce, homosexuality,
abortion, etc., are lobbying for a pope to advance their beliefs.
- Pope John Paul II used his "bully pulpit" to speak
forcefully for the sanctity of life and against the culture of
death. The next pope will have the same opportunity, but will
he be a "wolf in sheep's clothing" and do irreparable
harm to the pro-life, pro-family movement?
- Years ago, Pope John Paul II was reported to have predicted
a power-struggle after his death. "We are standing in the
face of the greatest historical confrontation humanity has ever
experienced the final confrontation between the church and the
antichurch," he said.
Whether or not we agree with all of Catholic theology, Scripture
calls upon the "saints," all who trust Jesus as Lord
and Savior, to "bind" "kings" and "nobles"
through prayer and praise and so to restrain evil (Ps 149:5-9;
1 Jn 3:8). Therefore, Christians can positively impact the election
of kings, presidents, popes and prelates through prayer and praise.
Please Join Us in Believing Prayer:
- You, Lord, are God of history. GOVERN,
Lord, the selection of this new Pope. RAISE UP a man of Courage
& Biblical REFORM (Josh 1:7-8; 2 Sam 23:3; Ps 66:7; 103:19;
Jer 7:3-7; Dan 4:17)
- May he CAST DOWN idols & REMOVE
high places. May he call laymen to STUDY THE SCRIPTURES for themselves
& ENCOURAGE BIBLICAL EVANGELISM among Catholics! In Jesus'
Name, AMEN! (1 Kg 14:22-24; 22:43-44; 2 Kg 12:2-3; 2 Kg 18:3-5;
Mt 24:14; Mk 7:6-9; 2 Tim 2:15)
