BUSH-PUTIN SUMMIT:
PRAY!
"The Most
Difficult Meeting Two Men Ever Had"
When you sit downwith a ruler,
consider carefully what is before you Do not desire his delicacies,
for they are deceptive food (Pr 23:1-3).
Presidents Bush's conferences with European leaders are extremely
important. Yet none is as weighty as his summit with Russian
President Vladimir Putin scheduled for Thursday.
- Heritage Foundation Russia-Eurasia expert, Dr. Ariel Cohen,
says Bush's meeting with Putin "will be the most difficult
meeting two men ever had" (see www.washtimes.com/commentary/20050220-083918-4655r.htm
).
- Bush told Europe's leaders, "We must always remind Russiaour
alliance stands for a free press, a vital opposition, the sharing
of power." Putin's crackdown on political dissent and pullback
from democratic reforms prompted Bush to charge him to "renew
a commitment to democracy and the rule of law" (www.deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,600113844,00.html).
- Putin meddled in Ukraine's recent election, opposing now
President Viktor Yushchenko.
- Putin promised they would not, but Russia is now selling
Syria anti-tank guided missile systems and shoulder-mounted surface-to-air
missiles (a terrorist's dream weapon).
- Syria and Iran, both major terror-sponsoring nations are
fueling the Iraqi insurgency and helping kill Americans. This
week, against U.S. protest, Russia will sign an agreement to
supply nuclear material to Iran.
- Putin faces serious political challenges at home.
Putin hopes to handpick his successor and amend the Russian constitution
to allow himself to become prime minister in 2008 (after two
presidential terms) with greater powers over national defense,
internal security and the Russian legal system.
Russia has pursued strategic alliances with Red China and
others to balance Western power. Putin is reaching out, seemingly
to befriend as many of America's sworn enemies as possible, behaving
more like a Soviet Apparatchik than the man in whose eyes President
Bush saw someone he could trust. We should bathe these men and
their meeting in prayer.
Please Pray With Us:
Lord, oh the Wisdom
our President now Needs! GRANT him WISDOM & COURAGE. ANOINT
his words. COMPEL him to accomplish Your purposes among rulers
& Nations (1 Kg 5:12a; 1 Chr 22:12-13; Is 33:5-6; Pr 8:13-16).
King of Kings, Reign! Protect
our President from every evil scheme! USE him to DO YOUR WILL!
In Jesus' Name, AMEN! (Ps 28 & 29: all; 47:7-9; 99:1-5; Is
41:1-4; Dan 4:34b-35a).
