EPISCOPAL CHURCH
SPLIT: Part #2
Christians Must
Pray for our Anglican Brethren
The LORD said, "[Sodom's] sin
is so grievousI will go down and see if what they have done is
as bad as the outcry that has reached me" (Gen 18:20-23)
A summit of Anglican Primates (senior church leaders) convened
in London Wednesday to consider the issues of their communion's
developing worldwide split. Conservative U.S. Episcopalians and
other Anglicans have asked Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams
to discipline the American bishops who voted in August to both
affirm the ordination of a homosexual bishop and to allow the
blessing of same-sex unions in the U.S.
- Last week 2700 Conservative U.S. Episcopalians asked the
Primates to "guide" a realignment of the U.S. church
(see www.AmericanAnglican.org/News/News.cfm?ID=783&c=21).
- The dioceses of Africa, Asia & Latin America (which now
contain a majority of the Anglican Church's worldwide membership)
hold to an orthodox Biblical theology and are outraged.
- Peter Akinola, the primate of Nigeria who oversees 17.5 million
of the Anglican Church's 77 million members worldwide, says "evil
forces'' are at work in the church. On Monday he called hundreds
of thousands of Nigerian Anglicans to pray and fast for the primates.
- The core issue is not homosexuality, but whether the
Anglican Communion will uphold the authority of Scripture.
One conservative rector reports, "When the plain teaching
of the Bible was referenced [at the U.S. Episcopal Bishops
meeting where the ordination of a homosexual bishop was discussed]
eyes rolled, and with expressions of polite exasperation we
were told that it was time to move on. The Bible simply hadn't
kept up."
The Anglican Church, the first church to be established in
the New World, has played a major role in U.S. history. As
goes the Church, so goes the nation! Our civil leaders cannot
be expected to take a stronger stand for righteousness in our
land than our Church leaders are willing to take in governing
the Church. What happens in London Wednesday and Thursday will
impact believers in every nation, but especially those in the
U.S., Canada and Great Britain.

Prayer:
- May the righteous actions of a God-fearing
few spur REPENTANCE among Anglicans Worldwide. CLEANSE the Episcopal
Church. CAUSE Your Word to be honored among the Anglican Primates.
- May American Christians everywhere
cry out to You in humble REPENTANCE. In Jesus' Name, Amen (Dt
30:19; Josh 24:15; 1 Kg 18:21; 1 Cor 6:11-13; 11:19).
ATTENTION! Please
set aside February 27 & 28, 2004, to attend the Washington
Insider Report's Pray for America Convocation
here in Washington, DC. Richard Owen Roberts will be our keynote
speaker both nights! Brother Roberts has been studying revival
for more than 50 years. Attendees will be able to hear from and
talk to "those-in-the-know" about the upcoming elections
and the workings of Washington from a Biblical worldview.
