Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral (Heb 13:4)

Last week the Canadian Parliament failed to uphold traditional marriage and soon it is expected to classify public discourse against homosexuality as criminal "hate speech." Yet in Washington, a diverse coalition of religious and political leaders met to pledge their support for a Federal Marriage Amendment (FMA) to the U.S. Constitution that would bar the practice and recognition of homosexual "marriage" throughout the United States.

• At an impressive press conference organized by the Alliance for Marriage: Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, and Muslim leaders; conservative and liberal activists; Republican and Democrat politicians, declared their united support behind an effort to amend the U.S. Constitution to define marriage as a union between "one man and one woman."
  
• Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R-CO) proposed such an amendment in May. Her joint resolution (86 cosponsors) is awaiting action in the House Subcommittee on the Constitution.
  
• Senators Rick Santorum (R-PA), Sam Brownback (R-KS) and Jeff Sessions (R-AL) will push the measure in the Senate. Santorum said, "The courts make up their own constitution all the time We need to amend [it] now instead of waiting for somebody else to do it for us."
  
• Christian political activists are not united in their commitment to the Amendment:
  Leaders of several high profile Christian ministries firmly believe an amendment is the only way to protect marriage from endless attacks by determined homosexual activist judges. 
  Opponents point to the difficulty of passage (the process requires a 2/3 majority vote in the House and Senate, then ratification by 38 of the states). Instead, they want Congress to invoke Article 3, Section 2 of the Constitution and to reign in the courts with laws limiting the courts' jurisdiction in this and other matters.

Amending the Constitution will take years, even if it can and should be amended. Massachusetts and other states could recognize homosexual marriage any day. Yet pro-FMA activists are moving ahead. Christians need to unite behind them.
Also, we must also press Congress to invoke Article 3, Section 2 to reign in the courts. God ordained Marriage! He warns of judgment for all who violate it. Our children and grandchildren cannot endure God's poured-out judgments upon our nation ­ if we fail.
